Terms of Service

Last updated: 26 July 2026

These Terms govern your use of Scream Share (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What the Service Is

Scream Share is a fun, anonymous space to release strong feelings — frustration, joy, stress, disbelief — safely. The Service lets you record a short audio scream, receive an algorithmically assigned animal avatar based on the acoustic properties of your recording, add a short caption, publish the result, and vote on other users' screams. Published screams are public: anyone can listen to them, on and off the Service, including via share links. The Service is entertainment, not therapy, and does not advocate violence, aggression, or the expression of hatred towards any person, group, or community.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you confirm you have your parent or guardian's permission. The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

3. Accounts

When you first use the Service, we create an anonymous account tied to your browser. Anonymous accounts are unrecoverable if you clear your browser data or switch devices. You may link your anonymous account to a third-party sign-in provider (Google, X, or Facebook) from your profile page; doing so converts the anonymous account into a named account while preserving your existing screams and votes. If you sign in with a social provider and a named account under that identity already exists, your anonymous session data (screams and votes) will be merged into your existing named account and the anonymous account will be deleted. You are responsible for all activity on your account, whether anonymous or named.

4. Your Content

You retain ownership of the audio you record and the captions you write. By publishing, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and distribute your content for the purposes of operating the Service. This license ends when you delete your content.

5. Anonymity — What We Do and Do Not Promise

The Service displays your published screams under an assigned animal avatar, not your name. However, your voice is inherently recognizable, and people who know you may identify you from a recording. If you voluntarily include identifying information — your name, location, workplace, or any other personal detail — in your caption, audio content, or profile, you do so entirely at your own risk. We are not responsible for any consequences arising from information you choose to disclose. We do not and cannot guarantee anonymity.

6. Acceptable Use

The Service exists for screaming at the universe, not at people. We do not advocate violence, aggression, or hatred of any kind and have zero tolerance for content that promotes or expresses them. You must not: incite or glorify violence or self-harm; direct content at an identifiable person or group with intent to threaten, demean, or harass; post slurs or hate speech targeting any person, group, characteristic, or community; post another person's personal information without their consent; post sexually explicit or adult content of any kind; manipulate voting or rankings through automated or coordinated means; or interfere with the operation of the Service. Strong language directed at the universe in general — frustration, stress, absurdity — is permitted. Violations of this section will result in permanent account removal without notice and without recourse.

7. Moderation and Bans

We may screen captions and audio using automated tools, review reported content, and remove or restrict any content or account that we reasonably believe violates these Terms, with or without notice. Accounts that violate section 6 — including content that promotes violence, aggression, or hatred — will be permanently banned. Banned users may not create new accounts to circumvent a ban; doing so constitutes a further violation. We are not obliged to explain moderation decisions.

8. Battles, Social, and Marketing Consent

By accepting these Terms, you consent to (a) your published screams appearing in Scream Battles shown to other users, and (b) your published screams and captions being used by us in social media posts and marketing materials to promote the Service. Both consents apply automatically on acceptance. You may withdraw either consent at any time by toggling the relevant opt-out setting on your profile page (/me). Withdrawal takes effect promptly: opted-out screams are removed from the automated battle pool and will not be used in new marketing content after the date of opt-out. Content already distributed before your opt-out cannot be recalled from third-party platforms.

9. Voting, Rankings, and SOTD Prize

Votes, ratings, rankings, and animal assignments are generated by the Service's algorithms and community activity. Each day's Scream of the Day winner receives twelve months of Scream+ at no cost, applied automatically to the winning account. If the same user wins the SOTD again, their Scream+ is reset to twelve months from the new award date — it does not stack. The prize is non-transferable and has no cash value. All other rankings are for entertainment only.

10. Free Tier

The core Service (recording, publishing, voting, sharing) is free. Free accounts may hold a limited number of published screams at once (currently five). If a Scream+ subscription ends, we do not delete the user’s screams. However, only the five most recent screams will remain active and visible on the user’s profile, in voting, and on other public pages. Older screams remain stored but are inactive and unavailable through their public pages; visiting an inactive scream’s URL returns a 404 page. The user may delete older screams or resubscribe to restore access in accordance with the then-current plan terms.

11. Deletion

You may delete any of your screams, or your entire account, at any time in the app. Deletion permanently removes the content from the Service, including the audio file and its public share page.

12. Our Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, branding, animal artwork system, and algorithms, is owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes. Animal artwork incorporates open-source assets used under their licenses, including Google Noto Animated Emoji (CC BY 4.0) and Twemoji (CC BY 4.0); attributions are listed at /credits.

13. Health Notice

Screaming at full volume can strain your voice and hearing. Use the Service sensibly and at your own risk. The Service is entertainment; it is not medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice or treatment. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis support line.

14. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of data, profits, goodwill, or reputation.

16. Changes

We may modify the Service or these Terms. For material changes we will give reasonable notice in the app. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

17. Email Communications

If you connect a social sign-in account (Google, X, or Facebook) or add an email address to your profile, we may send you service-related emails and, with your consent, marketing communications such as a daily Scream of the Day digest. You will be opted in by default when an email address is collected; you may opt out at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email or through your profile settings. We do not send marketing emails to anonymous accounts.
